Special Interest Classes
All classes are open to everyone, you do not need to be a Danvers resident or a senior to attend classes. Registration in advance is required for all classes on a first-come, first served basis.

MONDAYS
Strong Women, Strong Bones 8:15-9:15 AM Carole Lane Cost: $5 per session Weight-bearing, resistance training based on the Tufts Medical Program. Please bring your hand weights. Ongoing

Beginners Tai Chi 8:45-9:45 AM Johanna Hattendorf Cost: $25/$35 Designed for the person with no Tai Chi experience. Learn the basics focusing on gentle exercise designed to promote good balance, wellness and inner vitality. Limited to 6 Students.

Intermediate Tai Chi 9:45-10:45 AM Johanna Hattendorf Cost: $25/$35 Six classes focusing on gentle exercise designed to promote good balance, wellness and inner vitality. Sessions: IV, V

Literature 10-11:30 AM Nancy Usher Cost: $25/$35 Session IV: Moloka’i, by Alan Brennert The grim struggle of a Hawaiian woman who contracts leprosy as a child in Honolulu during the 1890s and is deported to the island of Moloka'i, where she grows to adulthood at the quarantined settlement of Kalaupapa. Rachel Kalama is the plucky, seven-year-old heroine whose family is devastated when first her uncle Pono and then she develop leprous sores and are quarantined with the disease. While Rachel's symptoms remain mild during her youth, she watches others her age dying from the disease in near total isolation from family and friends. Rachel finds happiness when she meets Kenji Utagawa, a fellow leprosy victim whose illness brings shame on his Japanese family. Sessions: IV

Chair Yoga 1:30-2:30 PM Dot McKeen, RYT Cost: $30/$45 Chair Yoga is a wonderful way to reduce stress, relieve muscular tension in neck, shoulders and back, increases flexibility, balance and endurance as well as enhances your well being. Sessions: IV, V

TUESDAYS
Watercolor Painting 9:00 AM-12:00 PM Br. Edward Rice Cost: $55/$75 Six classes for beginners and intermediates to enhance painting skills. Additional supplies required.

Zumba 9:15-10:00 AM Lisa Caruso Cost: $30.00 Low impact aerobics custom tailored to the fitness needs of the more mature fitness conscious individual. Class will meet every
Tuesday and Thursday. Purchase a “Passport to Health” card and have it punched every session you attend. Each card is good for 12 sessions. The card does not expire. Sessions: Ongoing

Intermediate Bridge-Plus 9:30-11:30 AM Patricia Muise Cost: $25/$35 Six classes will help the more experienced bridge player with complex bridge situations. Sessions: IV, V

Opera the First Broadway 3:00-4:30 PM John Tischio Cost: $40/$55 Opera was the Broadway of its day. It was a very popular, not an elite form of entertainment. This is an overview course covering all aspects of the subject. Each week we will feature a single opera and discuss its origins and the life and times of the composer. Most of the operas reviewed will be well known to most, but other no so well known. Why not join other kindred spirits and celebrate the joys of this great art form. Sessions: IV

Oil Painting 9:30-Noon Marty Riskin Cost: $55/$75 This is for beginner and intermediate painters to learn techniques and develop skills in oil painting. Sessions: IV, V

Chair Cardio 10-11 AM Natalie Loisou Cost: $25.00 For men and women - Seated in a chair you will start with light cardio with stretches, jobbing, kick outs and more. Then you will do strength training such as bent over rows, bicep curls, triceps kickbacks, leg extensions and more. Session: IV

Watercolor for All 1-3 PM Virginia Hill Cost: $55/$75 In this class you will review basics regularly, with focus on composition, color and values. Whether painting from still life arrangements or the student’s own photographs, all work is original. An always, we paint for the joy of artistic creation. Sessions: IV, V

Bereavement, Loss and Change Support Group 1:30-3:00 PM, Nancy Downey No Cost
A support group for people who have experienced the death of a loved one and who want to understand the grieving process, find comfort, healing, and more meaning in their lives. Ongoing

THURSDAYS
Watercolor Painting 9 AM – Noon Karen Nastuk Cost: $55/$75 Watercolor painting for all levels to enjoy. Learn new techniques to develop your skill. You can also create watercolors from your travel photos. If you are new to painting and drawing, you’ll learn easy steps and basic color mixing; if you are more experienced, Karen will help you fill in the holes – whether it’s figures, waterfalls, trees or perspective. Supply list will be provided at time of registration. Sessions: IV, V

All the “howto’s” of the game from the beginning. Also, a good refresher for those who have not played for a while. Sessions: IV, V

These gentle beginner poses will strengthen your body and free your mind. Yoga can help in all the games you play: golf, tennis, bowling, bridge and more. *Hatha Yoga refers to the body postures used in class. Session: IV

Metaphysical Messages 5-7 PM– Linnea, Psychic Medium Cost: $25.00 Join Linnea for an evening of metaphysical messages from the other side. Evidentiary message will provide information that shows that the Soul is eternal. Linnea is a guest lecturer with radio appearances on 30 national shows and 176 countries. Limited to 15. Sessions: IV: Thursday, March 22nd.

FRIDAYS
Woodcarving 9 AM-12 Noon No Cost Beginners and intermediates welcome. Participants will work on their own projects. Please provide your own tools and supplies. Ongoing
Decorative Painting 10 AM – Noon – Jeanette Lerner Cost: $55/$75 Class to be determined.

Portraits 12:30-3:30 PM Lee Santisi Cost: $55/$75 Explore the drawing of the face and focus on the fundamentals of the head with emphasis on basic structure and measuring. You will draw from a photograph or a model (when available). Supply list will be available at time of registration. Session: IV, V

Knitting 1-3 PM No Cost All participants work on their own projects. Members help each other over the tricky points and help you turn out an item just like the photo in the instructions. All Welcome!Ongoing
